Surface grinders are precision machines. They generate dust that is abrasive and this dust, if not removed simultaneously, can destroy the slides of the grinder in no time - however much the slides are covered with bellows.
Dust is also bad for the other machines working in the same premises - not mention the operators in the premises.
There are two options for dust collection systems for surface grinders - individual dust collectors and central dust collector for several machines working in proximity to each other. If there are several surface grinders (or, for that matter, other types of grinders, such as cylindrical grinders, center-less grinders, bench grinders, belt sanders, etc.) not far from each other, and they more or less work simultaneously, a central/common dust collector can be used with a duct network.
